Step 03 - Ubuntu Desktop installation menu

Ubuntu Desktop installation main menu screenshot. You can see five menus:

  • Try Ubuntu without any change to your computer
  • Install Ubuntu
  • Check CD for defects
  • Test memory
  • Boot from first hard disk

The first menu, Try Ubuntu without any change to your computer means what is says. You can try Ubuntu without installing it in your hard disk. In other words, this is the live cd Ubuntu. If you never use Ubuntu before, then choose this menu and try Ubuntu how long you like. You can check official software packages included, try running programs, etc.

The second menu, Install Ubuntu is what we are going to do, install Ubuntu in the hard disk. Don't click this menu yet. You should check next menu first.

The third menu, Check CD for defects is Ubuntu tool for checking your Ubuntu installer for defects. This is a very useful tool and you should check your cd before proceed to second menu especially if you download the iso and burned the image yourself.

The fourth menu, Test memory is a Ubuntu tool to check your system memory. A Ubuntu tool the same as third menu, but it checks the system memory.

The final menu, Boot from first hard disk is Ubuntu boot maintenance tool. You don't need to use this menu right now. But remember this tool if you have problem booting into your Windows or Ubuntu if you made a dual boot installation. Normally happen if you screw up the boot manager or when you choose the wrong mount point during the installation process. Use this menu to boot the first hard disk, usually Windows operating system.
